The earlier machines (2000's for sure) that used the Intersync used a
shunt-regulated power supply that was not an example of Ampex's better
work. This required the Intersync to actually have dummy loads that
would be switched in and out of circuit to keep the supply current more
or less constant. I have one machine with this arrangement. I have never
had a problem, but dread the day when I do.

Any series regulated supply, or switcher, was a big improvement!
