Guy is exactly right about the head switching which occurs every 16
lines. Also remember you have to interface the TBC to the servo/sync
system in the VTR and provide outputs for monitoring AMTEC and
Velocity errors so you can adjust for proper playback. It is not just
to correct composite errors.
Monochrome playback was possible without correction (only the proc
amp) if you didn't mind not having H lock and just wanted to look at
it on a monitor. I can look at the demod out in monochrome, the
monitor locks just fine.
