[QuadList] 1200 makes pictures

Hi Park,

Based upon my experience, Ampex was king. For example, I went from a
TCR-100 at WTMJ-TV 4 in Milwaukee to an ACR-25 at KTVQ-TV 2 in
Billings, MT, and the difference in system quality and engineering
was dramatic. The ACR-25 was truly an incredible feat of engineering.

I guess you could say I knelt before the RCA's to beg (at WMVS-TV
Milwaukee), and the Ampex rigs to praise (Q-2, Billings and
Amarillo). This in spite of the fact that we did a LOT of diode
checking on our VR2000 editors at KFDA-TV 10 in Amarillo.

One point of comparison, the mechanical design is quite memorable to
me. Whether an RCA transmitter, TK-27 or TK-28, or even a TP-7 slide
projector, there were always nagging bolt or screw locations,
separate lock washers where captive would've been ideal, or sharp
finishes just waiting to add to your array of arm scars. I REALLY
grew weary of those attributes!

On a circuit design level, I guess I'd have a better comparison if I
had an RCA machine 734' below my channel 10 antenna, at the same time
my Ampex rigs rocked along.

All the best,

John

Have knelt before the TR-70A, TR-70C, TR-4, TR-600 (barely), AVR-2,
AVR-3, ACR-25 (buffer version), VR-1200, VR-2000, Editec, the VPR-2
and the VPR-80
