I arrived at "The Food & Drug" in 1979 (we called it that because the
FDA in KFDA was just too easy to exploit). I left in late '84. I
must've been too late to the scene to hear the name Spiller, but as a
fellow 'FDA Chief I have a great deal of respect for all the formers
and future Chiefs.

YES! The VR1000 chassis was there when I got there! We rolled it out
back, behind the Quonset hut storage building to make room for an
array of 3/4" VTRs. It served us well up to that day, but more as a
shelf than a VTR. It had been removed from service LONG before I
arrived, and was probably retired to shelf-duty shortly after the two
VR2000s and one VR1200 were installed.

Spectacle indeed! We did the wrestling show at the studio on
Saturdays until about '82. I came away with two keepsakes - a sign
and a set of the ringside bleachers. The sign is truly special and
still adorns the garage side of the door from my garage to my
kitchen. It was a plastic wood grain engraved sign we had on the
station's front door. It reads, "WRESTLING FANS PLEASE USE THE NORTH
DOOR". I always marvelled at the premise it inferred that a wrestling
fan would know where and what north was.

Thanks for the note. And whether or not your Dad is still about, let
him know we did him proud in our efforts to maintain his former
stompin' grounds.

Warmest regards,

John
