Chris, by chance, the dark station wouldn't have happened to have been WJJY-TV in Jacksonville, IL?

There's a great website?detailing the bankrupt debacle that station became,?along with it being a site for RCA to experiment with a high-powered transmitter:

Along with a photo of some of the RCA quads:

I used to work at a place and when I got there we had an RCA machine.? Previously they had?got?one of the?quads used.? It was DOA and then?serviced by RCA.? About six months later?RCA called and asked for it back.? It turns out that the seller had removed it from a dark TV station in Illinois.? He had so called permission to use it.? After a period of time, he sold it.? It was shipped via a bus line.

?

RCA had let the station go dark and not done anything about it. Nothing was secured.? They let the place sit for a year or so.? They went to court and lost the case.? It was when they asked for list price on a machine that was bare bones and they had offered to the company the same at deep discounts.? They came across as not credible.

?

The sad thing was that the machine did not have any accessories.? Only CATC.? Then there were a lot of SK and HEP transistors in it.? This was the cause of a lot of problems.? I finally got it to perform decently.?

?

No one knew about the status of the machine until the final disposition of the court case.? The story came out and a lot of us were surprised.? After the case was won, we got rid of it.

?

So the moral of the story is make sure that you know the history of the machine.
