After taking in a view like this...

we'll head for food that we anticipate will be as striking.

DINNER and include your name and the names of any people are coming
with you.
In addition to socializing, this dinner marks the first opportunity
to reward, recognize and encourage the continued restoration of
equipment, sharing of knowledge, and dedication to keeping Quad
tapes' content from being lost to time.
Since Quaddy™ recipient Park Seward cannot attend, he and recipient
Ted Langdell will be presented with their awards at the annual NAB
lunch on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 in Las Vegas. Mark your calendars.
At tonight's dinner, two other group members will be honored for
their contributions to—as Park put it—"keeping the flame alive."
One won't have to travel far. The other is driving in from Southern
California, but may not be in St. Louis in time for dinner. Each has
contributed to the recovery of content but through different paths.
One has been working with Quad for more than 30 years. The other is a
relative newcomer to Quad care and operation.
Both are dedicated to the cause of keeping what's on Quad tape
available. Both are AMIA members and may have some of their work on-
screen at the AMIA Screening Night.
Klara Foeller is being recognized with the "Determination" Award for
her persistence in bringing the ability to transfer Quad tapes to the
Missouri History Museum's media collection and her willingness to
learn how to do so.
Through the help of a local engineer with extensive Quad history on
his resume, a VR-1200 was obtained and made serviceable. Klara has
learned how to to triage tapes into "likely to be difficult" and
others, to operate the VR-1200 and transfer material with success,
and to perform basic operational maintenance.
KMOX-TV transmitter engineer John Muench's help in this endeavor was
indispensable, Klara says. His contributions will also be
memorialized with the "0 to 59.97" Award for taking things from zero
to operational and keeping them there.
David Crosthwait is being recognized with the "Finding the Flux"
Award for continuing to use his 30+ years of Quad skills in the daily
preservation of Quad content and development of in-house practices
that enable recovery from difficult tapes.
This is a beginning, the first of what I hope are many opportunities
to recognize the contributions of people who are currently working to
make visible the programs still housed on Quadruplex Videotape.
As 2009 turns into 2010, please watch for people whose ongoing and
whose past contributions to the art and science of Quadruplex video
should be highlighted and honored, especially through the Quaddy™.
If you're at all within easy travel of St. Louis, we invite you to
join us for dinner and awards
Please RSVP by clicking here: I'M COMING TO DINNER and include your
name and the names of any people are coming with you.
Last year, we had a good time on Tuesday AND Wednesday with slightly
different groups, so a fun time will be had at AMIA.
