[QuadList] Rebuilding RCA TR-600s

We worked on the machine yesterday for a short time.

Turns out the buzzing solenoid is the large solenoid on the air block (where
the air comes into and is distributed throughout the system). I have a
spare.

We also found out that the color bars generator wasn't actually genlocked to
the system (thanks for the advice guys). We had all the cables connected
correctly and thought it was genlocked...but apparently gunlock isn't
working on the color generator. We put a new one in place and genlocked it
and everything was rock steady on Demod, TBC and output.

This just goes to show that you can't just "trust" that the equipment you
have is working properly. Everything has to be tested.

More to come later.

Thanks;

John Walko

Thanks for the insight.especially about the reel motors. I'm not sure it is

the solenoid.but it sounds like that is what is buzzing.replacing the
solenoid seems pretty straight-forward, if that is what it is. It is the
solenoid that appears to actuate the reel brakes.

Never put a greenie to a TR-600, but certainly on a few other quads. IIRC,
the solenoid releases (not engages) the reel brakes. If a "buzzing" solenoid

is not pulling in completely, the brake band could be dragging on a reel,
causing the capstan servo to fight with it. When you step on the little
footswitch to release the brakes (done while threading tape), do the reels
move freely?
