[QuadList] VPR5

I thought it was Kudelski too, the film industry loved the Nagra audio
recorders he made
My favorite was the small radio mic sized audio recorder, that would go in
an artist rear pocket

I am a VT engineer and Betacam has the recorder on the camera mans shoulder
No room for a field VT engineer

The VP5 with its big battery mod and big spool mod was quite a beast to
carry around

Yes, as Tony correctly points out, it was Kudelski that collaborated with
Ampex for the VPR-5. I have a couple of these, and they are beautiful
pieces of work. They are not as easily serviced as typical Ampex hardware,
but there are specialized service tool kits which facilitate critical
adjustments.

Perhaps Bill can shed some light on what I suspect was another collaboration

between the two companies. I have had replacement audio heads for the VPR-3

which indicated they were manufactured by Kudelski. I know there was a FEB
about improved heads for the 3, so perhaps the originals were not made by
them, but at some point, they apparently were. Did this precede the joint
effort on the design of the 5?
