[QuadList] Longing for analog TV in NYC or an unlocked hotel LCD

The hotel I'm in has nice LG HDTV capable LCD screens.

Unfortunately, the hotel's signal distribution is all analog (mono
sound) and appears to be fed by a batch of DirecTV receivers picking
up local and satellite channels.

I've had the Weather Channel on since last night, and the snow has
apparently either built up on dishes, or is cutting KU band signal
strength below what's needed to decode.

Here's the WX Channel just a minute ago...

I can get WCBS via this system... but not WNBC, WABC, WNYW (Fox 5) or
WPIX (11)... which would likely have news. They reveal the moving
"DirecTV" screen saver or "Searching for Signal.

Too bad the hotel has locked the setup panel, and the antenna
connector has a "don't fool with me" gizmo on it. Otherwise, I'd stick
a piece of stripped coax into the F socket and have the tuner run
through the digital channels. I'm line of sight... really line of
sight to Empire, 4 Times Square and other Manhattan TX sites.

I've been thinking about getting a standalone HDTV tuner and pair that
with my 24" Flanders Scientific/Sunzheng HD monitor and be able to
watch HD/DTV wherever I go.

If anyone's got recommendations, put up a reply with subject line:
"HDTV Tuners"

I'll go right out, dust off the Mountaineer and head for the store <g>

Ted.
