Speaking of genlock (or lack or):

During a "Pledge Night" in 1976 at KERA Dallas, my cousin came up with  
a brand new low serial number TK 76 that was on loan as a demo (from  
RCA) to a major semiconductor company's TV studio locally. We thought  
it would be great if we could put that on the air during pledge night  
and walk around MC, the control room, the studio, and VTR. The pledge  
night producers were enthusiastic about our plan. However, this early  
TK76 had no genlock capability. So, we fed it's output into the  
genlock "in" of the station's GVG master sync gen and flipped the  
switch (with ample warning to everyone). It worked just fine. We had  
the entire station genlocked for about three hours to the TK 76. And,  
it's all recorded on 2". I think the on-air talent made statements to  
the potential donors such as "If we had more money, we could afford to  
buy our own minicams (the hot word then)". I'm not sure if that  
evening's hand held remotes increased the subscriber base.
