[QuadList] Lou

The XYL and I just returned from a week in SFO where we visited our #2 son and took a cruise to Alaska from SFO.
 
While we in Town, we took a road trip to Placerville and visited "Mr. Ampex", Lou Bitton.  He has been a good friend of the family since we first met him.
 
He is looking pretty good, perhaps a few pounds heavier.  He is living with #2 wife right across the street from his 40 acre lot which contains a real gold mine, "The Lady Anne Mine". The mine is located under an old shed, looking down into it, all you see is a big hole that looks like it goes straight to Hell. There is also a lateral which has caved in in a couple places and those holes seem to go to the same place as the main shaft.  There is a nice cabin on the lot.  Last winter a big branch off of one of the pine tree snapped off and came down on the cabin right onto his bed.  Good thing he was living across the road at the time.
 
We spent the day with him and Suzana toured his lot with the gold mine, and then went to one of the new casinos nearby for dinner.  The whole day was priceless.
 
He spends most of his time watching and recording "History Channel" episodes.  He has had serious heart operations, he tells me he died 3 times but they brought him back in good shape.
 
He seems to have some memory losses, he wandered off on a trip to Yosemite and got on somebody's bus, but the rangers found him somewhere.  In speaking with him you wouldn't notice any problem. He remembered me, Ann, both kids who were little back when I was at school s at Ampex. (They are now in their 40's) He remembered some of the jokes and gags I pulled in class better than I did. He also asked about one of the "Girls"?? from CBS who worked with me whom he knew, (Pam)

He still has his plane, an old 120 which is in a shop somewhere and he wants to fly it again, but I think that is more of a dream on his part.  He also has a Beedee 5 somewhere which isn't complete.

I am attaching a foto of Lou and myself, I hope it makes it thru, if not I can send it to anyone who wants it. It is only about .2 meg so it may make it.  Also have shots of his gold mine, XYL and property.

I might add I received an e-mail from a friend of his who is the son of his old girlfriend, Janice, with whom Lou took flying lessons.  He also wanted to contact lou and he kept Googling him and came up with one of my older posts to this Quadlist.  He remembered my name and contacted me. Small world.
