Yes, That was the PLAT system, built by Ampex, and it was discussed here a long 
time ago.

I was told that aircraft carriers used 1100 and 1200 models for recording  the 
landings.  In fact, was this not mentioned in a thread a king time  ago?  The 
playbacks were used to evaluate the performance of the  landings.  It is 
something that I would not want to do in the middle of a  dark stormy night.
