Attention PAL-capable service providers on the list:

Here's something that came through my quadvideotapegroup.com e-mail
box. It could keep folks busy for a while.

After several back and forth e-mails with questions about what was
needed and how much material was involved, this is what I was able to
identify:

Transfer project RFP:
500 one-hour PAL 625/25 reels of 3M 2" Quadruplex Videotapes

All or most stored in a museum in individual cases. Said to be in good
condition. Samples are available in London, UK. Photos can be made
available.
Tapes are currently in London, England, HA9 0EW
UK-based provider preferred. Will consider other locations, such as US.

Deliverables:
Customer wants archive quality files on hard drive for preservation
File preference is for 10-bit Uncompressed YUV Quicktime
DVD's (One per Tape)

Proposal needs to include:
Conversion costs per reel and what that cost includes (inspection,
cleaning, baking, lubricating, reel replacement, repair, transfer, QC,
return shipping, etc.)
Cost breakdown for additional handling such as described above, in the
event some reels prove more difficult to prep or transfer
Estimated project start date
Estimated project finish date
Location of transfer facility
Recommended shipping methods and times (All tapes at once, Batches of
________, etc).
Proposed delivery schedule for deliverables and tapes
Not both tapes and drives at the same time or same shipment to protect
against loss of both.

capture and file inspection/QC
Type and cost of hard drive(s) to be provided
Type/Duration of Service Provider file backup pending arrival of
drives at customer location and QC after arrival.
