Yes CMX Orrox Merged with Video Max and Calfor which was a tool and dye machine shop company that also support RCA back in the day. When I worked there the sales of the refurbished video heads was pumped in CMX Orrox to developed their editing systems. Fun days..
The plant manager would always push to ship the quad heads even if we were out of Control Tracks for the heads. On a good month we would ship between 350 and 450 quad heads. FST was located right next to the CMX control room school..

That's an interesting story on both accounts... your experience and the "pushed out." More would be interesting.
Do you mean CMX as in editing? Or was that a typo? C and X are next to each other :)

Ted,
Thanks for the memories. I actually started out working for Video Max back in 1973 and then with Videomagnetics in 1980 so I had the pleasure of working in both buildings. I still have the original business plans for Videomagnetics Inc from 1975. I wonder how many people knew that the founder of Videomagnetics had also started Video Max but lost controlling interest to CMX and was pushed out after they merged.

Note the proximity of VideoMax to VideoMagnetics on San Lazaro in Sunnyvale.
VideoMax is at 154... and Tony's operation, VideoMagnetics is across the street at 155.
Here's where they were...

If you zoom in and click on the white stripe in the street, you can use Street View to see what they look like today.
Tony Korte moved VideoMagnetics to Colorado Springs. If you visit on the right evenings, you may be in for some live music in the recording studio he has next door.
VideoMax is now in Palo Alto, on Embarcadero Rd., a few doors from where Merlin Engineering Works was located. Ken Zin may have stories about Merlin to share sometime.
Side question: Can anyone tell what CMC Technology's "D.P.T. (Dynamic Parallel Tracking)" heads for Ampex machines differed from Ampex's AST (Automatic Scan Tracking) heads for 1" Type C?
