OFF-TOPIC (a little...)
One thing "Ron Burgundy" needed was sight gags about all the "portable" newsgathering equipment used back in the day. Portable if you happen to be built like a linebacker! The VR-3000 alone was 35lbs.

Where is Al Franken's mobile satellite uplink when you need it!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled listserv...

At Easter Sunday brunch yesterday at the house, my friend Louis brought over some vintage NBC photos, one of which is above. Although you cannot see it, inside the middle truck was a TR 5 and a TK 44 (or Bosch-Fernseh or Norelco PCP depending on the year). Also of note is the chopper, piloted by Francis Gary Powers. Although I have not spotted him in the picture, I believe he was the pilot at this time. This chopper dropped out of the sky in 1977 in the Sepulveda Basin when it apparently ran out of fuel on it's way back to the airport. Inside was a PCP and (at times) a VR 3000. Louis was the first to the scene when the airship went down. Due to the carnage, you won't be seeing any of those pictures of that fateful day from me.

This shot was taken in the NBC Burbank parking lot/landing strip for the chopper. Another note about this Jet Ranger: One day it was flown under the Mulholland Drive overpass parallel to the 405 Freeway. There allegedly is a recording of this somewhere, last in the possession of a retired NBC manager (3/4" or VR 3000 2" quad.). That "event" resulted in some heavy disciplinary action against the pilot (before Francis Gary Powers). I'm on the hunt for this tape.
