The Early Television Foundation Convention is getting underway today
in Hilliard, Ohio.
http://www.earlytelevision.org/2011_convention.html
The presentations look quite interesting, and are by some folks you
likely know from these lists:
Granville Klink’s Wonderful Collection of Broadcasting Memorabilia and
His Involvement in Early Television James O'Neal
Intermediate Vintage Television Restoration Techniques Lee Barmakian
60th Anniversary of RCA/NBC's Famous Walkie-Lookie or Peepy-Creepy
Backpack Camera/Transmitter Gary Davis
Bypassing the RF/IF Sections in Antique TV Sets Wayne Abare
AT&T Picturephone Service of the 1970s Richard Diehl
I hope the presentations are being streamed again this year. I enjoyed
being able to watch last year.
It'd be good to see Richard Diehl via Long Distance... by the internet
version of Picturephone.
And source tells me that there's something special in James O'Neal's
presentation about "Granny" Klink, the former CE of WTOP, Washington,
D. C. It might color your thinking about early TV.
Perhaps someone can post some video of and from Chuck Pharis's working
TK-11/31 camera chain that's on display along with these fine examples
of TV history:
Varian 925-40 helium leak dector (finds leaks in 15G and 21AX tubes) -
Bob Galanter
Silvertone 126-214 (TT-5) - Darryl Hock
Philco 1942 table model - Chuck Azzalina
East German SECAM set (Color 20) - Ingo Kubbe
AT&T Picturephone and Sony CV-2000 engineering prototype home video
tape recorder - Richard Deihl
Lighted Signs - Mike Molnar
Color Drum Receiver - Cliff Benham
Working TK11/31 Camera Chain - Chuck Pharis
Sunday, attendees will be treated to a restoration workshop, and
demonstrations of how to rebuild CRT's by one of the last picture tube
rebuilders in the country.
Sounds like a lot of fun in Ohio.
