[QuadList] RCA TR-3 in Lower Manhattan--

We got a TR-3 and two TR-4s very early on at WCVE to replace the two
TRT-1Bs we went on the air with. I'm thinking we got them in mid to
late '65. I wouldn't say they were RCA's finest hour though. We all
got very adept at changing out power transistors in the MDAs. I often
said the transistors blew to protect the fuses.
I don't think I will ever be nostalgic enough for them to seek one out.
Kind of in the same category for me as the Ampex VPR-20.
I did have a TR-5 early on in my business that had been "high-banded" by
Clint Free. Oddly enough, it was pretty reliable, and I took it on a
lot of remotes as a "portable"...plugging it in to a lot of wall outlets
and such...a sort of poor man's AVR-2, I guess.
