Appreciate the info Chris, 

This machine was in a pile headed to be e-wasted in India when I got my hands on it. 
Some of the components had been swapped out with others to get it to fire up and pull a tape through.  

Will try to get the numbers tonight.

There are two things to remember when aligning the VR-1200.  First is to have the mechanical pieces in good condition.  These include the capstan roller and other guides.  Capstan Roller is extremely important to be parallel with the capstan.  This will prevent tape damage.  If that is done, then the Intersync is about the only thing left that requires attention.   The alignment of that depends on the dash number.  And other modifications.  There is the training department short cut procedure on the web site.  It is not the latest and greatest but will get you in the ball park.

The Amtec, Colortec, Proc Amp and other accessories most likely do not have to be touched.  The signal system is straight forward.  Virtually do not touch anything if you have full limiting and correct deviation according to the white pulse.  If you get into that system, you may end up with a world of hurt.

Audio will not be that hard.  Mostly setting proper unity levels.  Once done, not that hard.  

Alignment tapes are the best for getting everything the final once over.

It is not hard to get a machine looking great.  As long as it is working correctly.  A couple of things to remember is that when finished, the video should only have the artifacts from being modulated and demodulated.  Plus a little dot spread on the vector scope.  If you can see other artifacts, then you still need to either adjust the Equalizers, Differential Gain, Head settings, or level controls.  I always set the Proc Amp to unity.  Then when using the video out control on the signal system, it was amazing how easy it was to reproduce the video the same as recorded.

Hardly seems that a year has gone by and it's time for another "The Reel Thing in Hollywood... and what's become an annual Quad Videotape Group gathering in the LA area.

Here's the basics:

1313 North Vine is the former Don Lee/KHJ-TV (and one-time CBS facility) from the early years of television.

Gary Adams from DaVinci's Revival platform and I have been doing this for three years, now, and have been joined for lunch or dinner by an interesting mix of folks, including Al Sturm, co-founder of the late Merlin Engineering Works and still active in Quad VTR improvement. 

Spontaneous gatherings of Quad-centric folks have occurred during various lunch or dinner breaks at "The Reel Thing" and we'll post a message to the list if something pops up.  

Last year, we had a dinner gathering of a number of folks with Quad roots... and had a very good time eating Mexican food up the street in the Arclight Theater food court.

The Friday and Saturday sessions are followed by an evening screening of a complete film, often one the restoration of which was discussed during the session presentation.

Sessions and screenings are held in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Linwood Dunn Theater, with lunch and dinner breaks of sufficient length to walk to and from good eats nearby.
