[QuadList] Sugestions on how to clean sappers.

Thanks for the suggestion Park,

I am currently using alcohol and cleaning wipes.
They work OK for glue on the edges, but alcohol will also cut the chemical that is used to keep the tape from naturally sticking to itself.

When you get sap that has penetrated in to the wrap, the tape wants to stick together. If I get too much of the separator is missing, the tape will stop or break.

Somebody told me that the separator is something close to boiled Castor Oil.
I can get Castor Oil at Wal-Mart, but I have been hesitant to actually try it because I don't want to risk a good head on a unknown chemical.

Ideally, I need something that will cut the sap but leave the tape and the separator alone.

Thanks
Lee

Thanks for all the good information.

I have to agree about Xylene. A little aggressive for my tastes for cleaning glue, unless I get to a really bad spot.  However, I do use it exclusively when cleaning transports.

To clean off the glue, I use alcohol and a Q-tip. It takes some time but will get the glue off. I then clean the tape with multiple passes with Pellon cloth and clean the machine after each pass since the guides scrape off any remaining glue.

Goof Off and Goo Gone may work too. But I must try the Eucalyptus. Sounds like a great solution. I will have at least 20 more reels to clean.

Best,
Park

I would not use xzylene.  I have used it to remove oxide from tape.  You might do more damage then good.Chris Hill

The Xylene has the virtue of leaving no residue of its own but I don't know about the other solvents. I don't think you'd want anything oily though it would loosen the sticky stuff.
