David:

Agreed, it appears to be fairly nice, but I also see some rusted screws in other locations. The degree that the xlr has rusted is not a good sign. The "missing" cover is in fact shown in one of the pics, laying on the top edge of the transport above the opening. I know all of mine are attached with chains, so it probably couldn't go any farther! The Ampex trim cover on the transport top plate is in place, and that is often missing on many that I have seen since it serves as a cover for some of the setup adjustments, and was sometimes left off for convenience.

I've dealt with 3 of these in the past few years. In every case, the biggest problem has been caused by the vacuum system tubing. It breaks down, and the resulting "goo" is corrosive to whatever metallic parts it contacts.....circuit board traces, connectors, whatever. Part of the housing of the vacuum pump itself is also subject to "softening" which can yield the pump inoperable. The company that made the pump is still in business, and replacement parts are available, but they don't give them away!

It will be interesting to see what this brings.

Looks pretty clean for a dumpster rescue, except for some heavy corrosion on one connector and a missing module or cover (don't have one of mine in front of me to compare).

Good luck on the bidding! $5,000 USD?
