[QuadList] AFRTs Germany-Park's pix (was Super Bowl IVideotape-Could an Armed ForcesNetwork...)

Hi Ted:

We certainly didn't worry too much back then about OSHA type problems, but I couldn't help but notice the right hand VR-1100 was parked directly in front of the fire extinguisher sign!

And what I thought was a Smith splicer in the back corner isn't. Looks like a clear plastic envelope with an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper in it... similar to what licenses were slid into near transmission gear. And it seems to be near some transmission gear.

And dig the Conrac 9"ers just parked without cases on top of the 1100's. OSHA would have a s--- fit about the potential shock hazard and danger from CRT implosion.

Thanks for the pictures, Park. Please post more if you have them.

    Hi Chris:

Also a second head case on the floor under the table in front of the 1100's.

The 1100's are a mid-production version......they have the old style reel hub clamps, but are new enough to have the Mark X headwheel and the associated trimpot chassis which was not part of the original version. I agree the machine on the left has no Amtec, but the machine on the right appears to have Amtec, but no proc amp. Hard to tell what was going on there!

And both of them are the ones with out an Intersync or any time base correctors. Also you can see the IVC machines to the left. RCA TK-22 Black and White camera.

Now what are those things that look like power supplies doing on the table? Along with a Ampex head case. Which machine was in trouble?

Wow Ted. I had to blow up the pic and brighten it a bit , but indeed you are correct. The Ampex quad in the back is a VR-1100.

I will ask what happened to the AVR-1 from Ramstein. This pic is from 1975.

Looks like IVC Blue (900 series) next to the AVR-1's Ampex Gray.

In the back corner, it looks like the microscope eyepiece of a Smith Splicer sticking out from between the racks and just to the right of that, a second generation Ampex Quad peeking out from behind a film island camera.

Interesting way of staging Quad tapes. Seems like "we're marking territory, here."

Thanks for the pic and background.
