Hi Folks,

The Govt had a 7 track, 1/2" tape FM instrumentation recorder, named the UNQ-8,
(nicknamed "Unc Eight" ) and was used on the Polaris Subs, to record data from a
missile firing, when the missile is traveling from the sub tube to the surface.

This was in the early 60's, since I worked on the "B" version in 1963.

I hope this helps?

Bill Carpenter

Subject: [QuadList] ½" 7-track FM Instrumentation recorder

Guys,

I am trying to hunt down a ½” 7-track FM Instrumentation recorder to play back
some NASA tapes. The models that I know are compatible are the Honeywell 96 and
the Ampex FR-107—I’m sure there are others as well. I’m wondering if any of
the guys on the Quad list might be helpful in locating this type of instruments.

I was wonder if Ken Zin or Don Norwood would have any idea where I could
purchase or rent one of these instruments. I have no idea whether the tapes
were recorded in full wide band, wide band 1 or 2.

Pat
