Yes they are a beast
They need to be moved very carefully. You are correct that the harness
between the main three racks and the servo racks is one of the most important
things to get right. I have the manual so that would make it possible to
put back together is it is disconnected. NAB sound like an interesting
place to show it if it could be made to work. So when did RCA show the first
one? It would most likely be 1957. So in 2012 would be a possible date.
But the logistics would be so difficult.

Hello Tim (and all),
TRT's are rare indeed. May I suggest to anyone who gets involved in this
project that they come prepared with people and supplies. On the TRT's we
moved, three of the racks were bolted together and must be moved as a unit.
Plus the servo racks and color rack. There is the issue of tubes and tube
covers: Each has to be secured. The harness must be precisely documented on
each end when disconnected. And on and on...
I don't recall if any of the transformers have PCB issues, but be aware.
We moved two and one-half TRT 1's over 2,500 miles.
Best of luck!

Hellp all,
I got the following email today. I am very interested in especially
the TRT-1 but can't afford shipping at this time (and I am running out
of storage space myself). Is there anyone else who wants to 'rescue'
these machines? (Or move them to Reno for me, for free ;-) )
Thanks!

Subject: RCA Tape Machines
Date: Mon, 7 Feb 2011 15:21:51 -0600
Tim,
I have a couple tape machines that have been in storage for 30 years.
They are the RCA TR-1 (5 racks total full of tubes) and the much smaller
RCA TR-3. We have these units in storage off site and can no longer pay
storage fees on them. Would you be interested in these or know of
someone that might? I would rather not pitch them as they are history.
Thanks
