My catalog is TVT-2166. One of the previous posters saw the HL version at
the NAB that year.
It would be interesting to hear from someone that worked for RCA at that
time regarding the gestation period of the TR-70.

Chris,
The RCA catalogue I have from 1966 (TVT 5566, perhaps a later issue...)
shows the TR 70 on the cover, and has information on the TR 3, TR 4, TR 5, TR
22D, and TR 70, plus accessories. But interestingly enough, one of the TR
70 pages shows a sketch of "Man vs TR series machines" and it is a TR 22HL.
Go figure!

The answer is that RCA introduced the TR-22HL as their first High Band
Quad. The 1966 catalog featured the machine on the cover. The machine was
basically a prototype for the TR-70. There were a few changes according to
the catalog that I have between it and the TR-70. Notably the addition of
the indicators and standard selection below the monitor.
Side note about machines. Did you know that RCA sold IVC one inch
machines with the RCA name?
