I agree that some of the earlier RCA octaplex designs were not small, but comparing the size of the VR-3000 to the TPR-10, I would think there should be plenty of room for the additional electronics as it is considerably larger than the Ampex.

  If in fact that this was some variant of an octoplex head, it sure would be an engineering feat to fit it on such a small transport. I've seen documents on RCA's earlier designs, and they are not small.
