[QuadList] Problem AVR 3--Did this ever get identified/fixed?

Good for you in solving the first problem.
One thing you can do to try to get the right set of boards back is see if
there are serial numbers on the boards. Sometimes there were. Look at the
serial numbers of the machines and thus you might figure out that the
lower card serial number will go with the lower serial number machine. Another
way is if there is a big difference between the serial numbers of the
machines, the dash numbers on the boards may be different. Higher dash number,
later production. Also if there is a different assembly number, then the
board is not compatible with an earlier machine. Usually means there was a
change to the back plane in that case.
Lastly, if you set the machine up in manual mode and it does not get it
perfectly, but close, check the DG controls. Sometimes they are so far from
normal that it looks strange. This is a real extreme situation and
probably does not apply. But I throw it out for consideration.

Hi Ted,
Got part of the problem fixed with the low RF.
Turns out that the pre-amp of a NTSC/PAL AVR3 is different than a NTSC
only.
When I got the right amp in the right machine, the RF came back to were it
should be.
The interesting thing is now I have lost Auto Chroma on that machine. (And
it's not the #4 card)
The manual says that several of the cards have to work together to get it
to auto chroma and unfortunately we did not write down what we had swapped
out between machines.
Makes a good picture on manual so not really to enthusiastic to find the
right combination.
As for cleaning, I still have 3 gallons left of the old xylene that
California banned 10 years ago.
Toxic as you can believe, but brings back heads like nothing else will.

Hi, Lee,
Just wondering whether you were able to track down the problem and fix it.

Have a interesting problem with one of my AVR 3's.
I have consistently low RF readings at the tracking meeter and can't get
the RF up to normal levels.
Here is what I see.
A known good hi band tape that will display RF between 80-85 in any other
machine will only display 10-15.
Low Band light always on.
Auto Chroma won't respond on #4 card.
Looking at the Demod in the wave form monitor, the sync level looks 10 IRE
low.
Here is what I have tried. (all swap outs are with known working
machines)
Swapped out pre amp behind head.
Changed out MDA (it was bad with other issues)
Swapped out every card in the lower frames.
Changed out power supply frame. (it had cap problems with other issues)
This one has me good.
Nothing visible as far as the wiring harness.
I am kind of running out of things to swap/look at.
Has anybody else ever experienced this one?
Also,
Were will the get together be at NAB?
Plan on being there for Monday and Tuesday.
Thanks
Lee
