[QuadList] Jeporady Question of the Day

We had a shoot out at WTVJ between the Odetics Tower machine and a very
large Sony X-Y system. We had them
on either side of the tape room.
The Sony cassette grabbing mechanism was an unbelievably
complicated device. That complication turned us away
from the Sony X-Y. We bought an Odetics double tower system, and later
added the Odetics X-Y machine.
These replaced 3 ACR-25s. The first ACR-25 was serial
number 21.

Yes it was called Silverlake. It was made by Odetics with and for RCA.
Several of the product group from RCA left for Odetics to continue the
product which had several generations of kit and was quite successful. They
ultimately interfaced with just about any modern cassette type decks including
the Tektronix Profile disk recorder. I think some are still in use and
are still service by a couple of former Odetics Engineers. I worked for
them a short while and still keep in touch with some of them. In early
systems, the decks had to be modified, but later systems did not require any deck
modifications. This made it really appealing since you could choose your
format and deck and still have the automation from Odetics. Gary

Of course there was RCA's Silverlake (?) Beta spot playback system, which
was introduced but never made, and which was ultimately marketed by its
manufacturer Odetics. But that was a Sony Beta system, not quad.

Subject: [QuadList] Jeporady Question of the Day
As we know, many products are introduced and never make it to market. One
example is the VR-8000 that was a 2 inch helical machine that looked like
an VR-1100 with a new transport. Literature was distributed and catalog
sheets were produced.
So the question is
"What RCA Quad Machine was introduced but never was sold?
