I would think you might be looking for a VR 2000 in NTSC with a PAL M spg. I know a VR 2000 NTSC will play back PAL M recordings in black and white, may be you could get colour with a PAL M spg ? As to an NTSC AVR 2 in the UK maybe someone out there knows. I see from the manual that there are a few explicit bords for PAL M some are Dual standard NTSC and PAL-M Your best chance is probably Brazil, or a VR2000 with PAL M SPG, good luck.

Just FYI PAL-M subcarrier is not 4.42 MHz. The 4FSc is 909 times H rather than 910H for NTSC so the subcarrier is a little lower than 3.58. That said, I don't know how you'd play it back and convert it to NTSC.

An e-mail from the UK arrived in my mailbox just a few ago. Ian writes:
Hi,
Any idea how you could playback a PAL-M recording on an Ampex AVR-2.?
The AVR-2 is a PAL/625 at 5.5MHz machine where the PAL â?"M recordings format is 525/PAL at 4.42MHz
Any info would be much appreciated?
Kind Regards,
Ian
