[QuadList] RCA TR 5 on eBay

I kind of cheated,
I used a pre-striped tape and kept the original control track.
The servo continued as if it were in playback but the signal processing
switched into record.
The erase head came on about 500 ms before the recording started.
I literally filed away the control track portion of the erase head and
filled it in with epoxy.
Then I glued on a separate erase head for the control track for normal use.
I put a blip on the cue track where I wanted the edit.
Then I out-boarded a cue-track read head near the erase head to start the
whole process.
In the time-lapse mode, the edit would erase the old blip and record a new
one a frame later.
As I recall the machine had to lock up color framed rolling into the edit
or it would back up and try again.
The whole time-lapse thing was a one-trick setup, but once started you
could just sit back
and watch it roll back, roll in, edit, rinse, repeat.
Hey, I was a college kid with a lot of free time on my hands, what can I
say?
