> Did any of you on the East Coast or in the UK ever have experience with
the Sony System G? That was mostly an NAB show piece although I knew of one
in Hollywood for a while. I expect to see it at the scrap yard one of these
days in a display case featuring outlandishly expensive but short lived
video toys.

I had no operational experience with it, but I think NBC-NY had at
least two of them. Here's Edit 4 about a year before it disappeared.
I think the console at the lower right is for Sony System G:

I say:
As I recall, the product specialist for System G at Sony was Dave Frasco
(now at Avid). He probably knows a few things about their whereabouts.

There is a continuing search for any of the tapes.
It is almost certain that the original tapes were re cycled by NASA but
There were other tapes made that have not been found.
At Parkes where the radiotelescope dish was used to receive the
transmissions
from the moon and in Sydney at the OTC / NASA control centre there were
other recorders.
There is information that the video was recorded on a VR660 helical 2 inch
machine in Sydney
and that at Parkes and at Honeysuckle Creek tracking station the data was
recorded as well.
Does anyone know anything about a modified VR660 used to record data
instead of video that may have been at Parkes?
There is a huge amount of information on the website www.honeysuckle
creek.net
The improved quality that would be seen if today's image processing was
applied to the original data stream would be incredible.

The Chroma Keyer was licensed from Ultimatte. I think it was the automatic
setup that was the most fantastic part. Then a few touch up tweaks for the
perfectionist.

beautiful job. I saw a test that a Post House did in the Chicago area and
they showed me the tapes of all the Chroma Keyers from all the switchers.
GVG beat them all and we sold a 1000 for that use.
