[QuadList] More than one 50th Anniversary

G'day

There are many changes going on at the BBC, they are not just moving out of Bush House but also out of the BBC Television Centre at White City in West London. This is all due to the rationalisation of the operation together with money and politics. For the past four years the BBC have been building two new complexes, one is an L shaped building which fits next to and behind BBC Broadcasting House in central London which has been the home of BBC Radio domestic services, but will now also house BBC News (Including BBC World Service) for all platforms, that is TV, Radio and the Web. The second reason is that traditionally the BBC World Service has been funded by the Foreign Office of the UK Government (Equivalent to the US State Department), but will now be funded out of the BBC licence fees.

The third reason is that the UK government wanted to decentralise the BBC or break its London based culture. They have now built a new studio complex in Manchester where many of the London based programs have now been moved.

What's the old adage, "When in doubt re-organise?"

Cheers

      Hi List

Whilst everybody is talking about Telstar's 50th Anniversary, today is also the 50th Anniversary of The Rolling Stones first performance in London. Also today is a rather sad day for the BBC World Service as it will close Bush House after 70 years broadcasting to the world
