I would appreciate your discussing it with the CBS group...and if they have any Ampex Quad friends or associates up here in Maine that are around and retired, it would be a nice project to bring this one on-line again just for the history and to allow people to see it run on occasion.

We have three network affiliates up here and just the kind of local news reporting that they'd probably like to get behind it and talk it up on air.

I don't drive, I stay close by, and I'm starting into cancer radiation treatments, so anything that you can help with that CBS NY group would be appreciated.

Stanford Library in California did a nice copy set of 1000 C manuals for me but it's mostly from the "pre-upgrade" days, color etc. No big racks of tubes, it's the stand alone machine with the bridge.

I've got a Sigma CSG-365A Synch Generator standing by and a TEC 528 and TEC 1750 scopes standing by. It needs the vacuum system back on, compressor etc.

It's a nice neat and clean machine, I've it kept stored and preserved since the day when I traded KEPR-TV a Sony 2800 editor for their news department 22 years ago. It was'nt one rescued out of a chickencoop from somebody's backyard fortunately. When the chief (Don Eckis) moved it to the Bekins Storage a few blocks from KEPR over in Pasco, WA in 1990, the manual set stayed behind (un-fortunately) and after they got a new chief and went through a cleanout of their technical library, the full regular manual set got tossed out and ended up in the local landfill.

It's part of the family, and I really prefer to to be able to keep it here in this area and set it up where people can see it run on occasion. I think we've got a lot of sites around here where it could be transplanted easily and the public could have viewing access to it.

  Hi, Steve,

  New England Quads:
The folks in Boston who run the Museum of Broadcast Technology in Woonsocket, RI might be interested in helping. They have a collection of Quads.

Tom Sprague is the CTO, and heads National Boston, the post facility on Dummer St..

CBS (NYC) Retired Engineers luncheon next week:
If you wanted to make a trip to New Jersey next Thursday, the CBS Retired Engineers from the New York facilities are having their annual Luncheon.

There may well be some folks from the "Grand Central" days when the first Ampex VTR's were installed in 1956... and later.

I was planning to attend—I'll be in NYC from Monday through the Sunday before Memorial Day.

Unfortunately, the installation we're participating in now overlaps into Thursday so I can't go. :( !!!

I was hoping to meet some of the VT engineers who were involved with the early days of tape at CBS.

I know George Keller was planning to attend.

So maybe some NYC or Boston folks might want to make a vacation trip to Maine?

  Ted

Greetings from Orrs Island, Maine Ted:

I've still got my truly nice 1000C (ex:1990 KEPR-TV Pasco, WA) with all the upgrades and 600 hours on the MK-10 remaining.

I wish you folks had somebody from those days on the member list in MASS or NH or VER or MAine that would enjoy getting together and bringing out of it's hybernation.

It would be nice to have it set up and running and on display maybe at one of our local Maine stations.

    All the Best,

I asked that question of the list not long after it started.

I was advised that some collectors prefer to be rather quiet about what they have.

Others are pretty open about what they have.

Add one to the other and the conclusion is that we're not likely to have a complete picture of Where Are the Quads?"

But it doesn't hurt to ask.

        I asked this question before
        and heard nothing back...

        Has anyone started a list
        of what model machines exist
still out there and where they
        are located? For Example I
        have a TR-5 - who else does?
