[QuadList] HS-100

During my first VR tour at WGN there was an HS-200 for Production use in the West Tape room. Don't remember if it was the same stack or not, but I seem to remember HS-100 replays run from Studio 4 control room during Cubs and White Sox road games.

Later at WSNS-44 we rented the WGN Snow Goose for White Sox home games in '78, '79 and '80. Ed Keker and I split time operating the HS-100 for replays, fed from the 1 aux bus available on the mighty CDL switcher.

WSNS had a leased HS-100 for replay use on Bulls and Black Hawks games. Al Knispal from the WMAQ Field Shop was contracted to maintain and be at 44 when it was in use. Per our NABET contract I was assigned as the in house Engineer to assist. Al let me do most of the work.

Remember we used distilled water to clean the discs. Also there were two schools of though re the heads before the auto head lifters came out. #1 ALWAYS lift the heads using a long greenie before shutdown and #2 NEVER use a greenie to lift or set the heads, just leave them alone.

Saw an HS-100C debut at the Chicago NAB, mid 70's? Came out just before the VPR's took over doing replays so don't know how many were sold. Would love to see a machine operate again. Got my little pieces of white tape all ready to go!

This is the Digest of the QuadList. Celebrating four years of Quad Conversations, July 25, 2012

Please change the subject line from "Digest" and Trim your post to JUST the relevant info when replying. That prevents the entire digest from re-posting.

You can copy and paste or highlight the desired material before hitting "reply" in most e-mail clients.

That will keep the entire digest and a bunch of headers with gobblydgook from being re-sent to the list.

Your subscribe, unsubscribe and digest options are at the bottom of the digest.

Thanks.

Of course, it always helps to have a pretty woman assist in the display! Bill Carpenter, were you ever a part of the product shoots (sharing a cup of coffee and a pastry with the female models in the advertising sessions)?
