David,

I think I actually still have somewhere an old Texwand for cleaning between the platter surfaces.

I'll be happy to contribute  it to the cause if needed.

Larry,

The words "should be unloaded on power up"   is the key.

After 30 years of dormancy, it has to be verified first.

They reach full tension and latch when EOC is reached.

The most critical thing is going to be the heads and where they are when the disk starts rotating. That's where I need the heavyweight maintenance men to check it out first.

I suppose plenty of cold beer, ice tea and blenders full of Margaritas will have to be on hand to keep the key personnel motivated.

That's an event I'd like to see.

One of these days, I will fire this unit up. I have several friends from NBC, ABC, CBS and Metromedia sports days who want to be a part of that event. Maybe broadcast on Skype?

For $4K I would think he will be sitting on it for a very long time. Maybe $40 to have an interesting conversation piece, but aside from that it's pretty worthless. Haven't seen an HS-100 up and running in a very long time.
Remember several times our unit at Mobile Color (Houston) coming back from a rental with the top box (disc unit) upside down in the freight truck. Always hated to see that!
