[QuadList] What mechanical parts would one need to get a quad working?

Dave Dintenfass says:

" they can grind the flats flat (!) and spot plate to build up to the desired surface height.
That would be the cheapest and easiest way to do it.
Be sure to specify tolerances too. They can likely hold to 0.0002” with grinding, but I could be mistaken.
They can “mike” the good areas and figure out what the thickness of the disc part of the guide needs to be."

And John French says:

"The best way to fix this would be to have the surface ground to remove the grooves and if at all possible,
take off an amount that can be replaced with a shim (remove 0.25mm off the guide surface and then add a
0.25mm shim to bring it back to the same height). "

I like John's idea since it would be cheap and easy to replace the shim when worn.

I like Dave's idea since it would make the part very tough if he used hard chrome.

Best,
Park

>> David's comment about checking the audio stack reminded me of one other area to check would be the roller (tape)guides. I have redone several on 1200s and RCAs. The bearings get tight and the roller stops turning. Either by soaking the bearings or replacing them. Also checking the guide shoulder on Ampexes for wear lines from the tape edge, espescially the one by the audio stack. Wear lines there can slice a tape edge to ribbons. RCA didn't have that problem with the shoulders because they used ceramic washers and sapphires.
