[QuadList] What mechanical parts would one need to get a quad working?

Dave Dintenfass says:

" they can grind the flats flat (!) and spot plate to build up to the desired surface height.

And John French says:

"The best way to fix this would be to have the surface ground to remove the grooves and if at all possible,
take off an amount that can be replaced with a shim (remove 0.25mm off the guide surface and then add a
0.25mm shim to bring it back to the same height). "

I like John's idea since it would be cheap and easy to replace the shim when worn. 

I like Dave's idea since it would make the part very tough if he used hard chrome.
