As far as the digital aspect of the DVD goes... true... but there's a good bit of content ON DVDs that originated as an NTSC signal and has been digitized... or is viewed in many situations from a DVD deck out an RF connector AS and NTSC signal.

NTSC is still alive and well as distribution method in a lot of places, including quite a lot of cable TV plants and Master Antenna TV systems (MATV) that haven't converted to a totally digital path.

My 99-year old Dad's skilled nursing facility has a collection of DirecTV receivers as the "head end" of the in-house "cable" system, distributing a collection of content via NTSC RF to resident's rooms.

Displayed on his 40" Sony Bravia... it's not pretty, especially due to the poor maintenance of the cable plant (snowy signals... etc.)

Since the residents provide their own TVs, many still use CRTs that lack any kind of digital-signal tuners. So keeping NTSC in place is essential for this facility, and in many other places.  

I wish the system had some ability to incorporate the available off-air DTV signals along with the DirecTV feeds.
