[QuadList] Ampex Pinch Roller removeal procedure

The most critical thing is to get the roller back on properly.  
 
Make sure that the roller is perfectly parallel with the capstan  shaft.  
If not, then the tape will be pushed up or down and possibly cause  edge 
damage upon start up.  When you put the screws back in just finger  tighten them 
so that you can check the alignment.  Push the roller toward  the shaft and 
with a light behind it you can see if it is aligned.  Then  tighten the 
screws and recheck.
 
Tape stock does make a difference.  Fuji tape was stiffer and had more  
edge damage for us.
 
RCA machines had a capstan that was more or less free floating and thus was 
 easier.
