There's an F-bomb in the third paragraph.
It recounts the saga that QuadList members Dennis Wingo, Ken Zin and the late Al Sturm (among other participants) have been on for the last several years, pulling analog data off of 2" tape and reconstructing higher quality images of the Lunar Orbiters made while mapping the moon for Apollo landing sites.
The entire batch of tapes has now been transferred once, a process completed earlier this year. Some tapes are being re-transferred to obtain better quality images that benefit from what's been learned and improved on compared to early work, or to overcome glitches in the original transfers.
So while the end seems near, the work still continues to make more perfect the images that will be stored in digital form, available for research... and just to stare at in wonder.
