The blackbox Codi is simply a serial controlled character generator.

Hi Ken,
Hope you are doing well.
I have a question about the early color recordings. I have some low band
color recordings from the middle 60s and I see a lot of herringbone
interference. Is that because of the frequencies they used? Is there a
way to clean that up?
Best,
Park

tape that I received is the WRC recording and the one that Ed Retain,
Don Kent and Dan Einstein did was the one from Ike's library. The WRC
tape was played many times before we at Merlin received WRC's tape. So
the WRC tape had some tape damage to it. I built a special demod
demphasis for the this tape. I later learned that RCA had two Ampex
VR1000's with the signal system removed and RCA signal system installed,
as the Ampex had a very stable servo and RCA did not. That hey the audio
lip-sync is correct on that tape, Ampex had not change the position of
the audio with respect to the video, but RCA was change to be compatible
with Ampex, so if you had a old quad tape and the audio was in sync with
the video it had to be a Ampex recording, except in this case the year
was 1958.

capacitor from an Amtec along with three pots to get the color bars to
look right, I built a module for the Library of Congress to plug in to
play this tape and some of the Fred A. and Ginger R. also.

Ed, it?s an easy hookup. Composite into Codi, composite out to switcher
(you can select key signal or full video out), preview composite out to
your touchscreen with whatever conversion inline you need. We typically
run ours through a composite to VGA converter. Data is serial
connection from port on Codi (232 or 422, dip switch) to touch screen.
That?s about all there is to it.
We have a few Codis, a client Fingerworks, a Pointmaker, and a couple of
ForAs. They?re all irritating.

Using 3M MicroTouch With Codi
------------------------------------------------------------------------
--
Help Needed!! Just purchased two 3M MicroTouch model M150 monitors
for use with the Codi Blackbox. Does anyone have experience with getting
these two devices to work together? Is there a way to import the 3M
driver(s) via the serial port on the Codi? Codi may have op system in
ROM only...? Thanx!!

3M Microtouch monitor

The Blackbox CODI does not work with any touchscreen. The program
code is hard coded in a PROM to simply load and display graphics.
There was a variation of that product designed to work with
touchscreens as part of a telestrator system we call CODIstrator. That
product has evolved into a PC based product which could work with the 3M
microtouch monitor, but that doesn't help you

Ed,
Codi Telestrator. Have run many trucks that have had and STILL do have
on
board, though now we have to upconvert the analog signal to HD.
Better if the rack unit is in the truck, then only a Tele PGM signal is
sent to the touch screen at the announce position, plus the data signal
to
monitor.
Program (or selectable iso signal) fed to the frame. Both fill and key
fed
to the switcher or commonly just the key which is matted with a color
or
white. Announcer "draws" on the monitor, key shows up on air.
The BNC's on the back are very fragile and break off the motherboard
easily.
