I hope David is able to post more clips from the rediscovered 1971 reel soon, and tell the background of how it came to be stored and discovered.

David's sharing brought up another early Carson episode suggested by YouTube.

This one is unusual in two ways, its one of the NBC-produced pre-Carson Productions episodes, and its its a COLOR Kinescope (that appears to be from Quad... watch for color banding in the monologue.) The opening titles that may have been added by the Carson estate report it was kinescoped for the Armed Forces Network

The cameras are in fine tune and the Kinescope quality is quite good allowing for some dirt. Would like to know more about what was used for the recording process.

And it has a truly star-studded guest list you wouldn't expect to see on a similar show today:

A-list musical guest Buddy Rich in a drumming duel at the beginning of the show, followed by Bob Hope, Judy Carne, Dean Martin, George Gobel and brought out in the last minutes, Carol Wayne and Robert Wagner.

Runs 38:32. The question of the night is: What did Dean say at 34:15?

The show was recorded during one of the summer Tonight Show visits to Burbank. A great example of why archives matter. A round of thanks to all involved in making these passing moments re-enjoyable.
