Subject: Experienced 2" Quad, 1" VTR Ops, Telecine/Scanner Ops, Maint. Engineers, Supervisors wanted for project (projects?) in Doha, Quatar--

Experienced VTR operators, Telecine/Film Scanner operators, Digitization Supervisors and VTR Maintenance Engineers are being sought for an AV archive videotape and film migration project or projects in Doha, Qatar, where a large majority of the city's residents are expatriates from somewhere else.

The two-year project is using Ampex AVR-3s and AVR-2s on the Quad side. An apparently separate project involves 2" Quad, 1" Bosch BCN Type B and unstated brand(s)/model(s) of Type C Helical VTRs, and unstated brand(s)/model(s) of 3/4" Umatic machines for the videotape side, and current-technology film scanners for the migration.

16mm and 35mm film is involved, along with sepmag.

PAL video is the general rule, although SECAM experience is a plus.

The employer advises that "Due to the fact that it will be the last playback of these materials, a perfect knowledge of the 2 inch Quad VTRs will be necessary."

A minimum of five years experience with the listed videotape formats and equipment is required.

In Brief:

VTR operators will need (among other skills) to know "how to listen to the VTRs run," be skilled in machine cleaning, AVR-3 and AVR-2 setup, recognize playback flaws and correct them, digitize, log transfer quality, issues and results in a production database.

Motion Picture Film Scanner operators will inspect, repair and clean film before transfer, then digitize for best quality using current scanners, and log results.

A Videotape prep position involves inspecting, cleaning/baking various formats, and keeping a steady flow of playback-ready tapes available, logging activities to ensure traceability and process quality, cleaning and maintaining equipment used.

VTR Maintenance Engineers will check machines daily, consult with operators on operation and provide tech support, maintain proper operation of the VTRs and other equipment in the digitization chain, maintain tape cleaners and air compressors, and manage head refurbishment plans.  An interest in and experience with "old school" electronic design from the late 1970s is essential.

The Digitization Supervisor will supervise the videotape and film digitization process, assign and supervise staff, monitor the workflow and eliminate flaws, have experience with film and tape inspection, cleaning, scanning, digitization and MAM management and backup to LTO tape.

All positions require some knowledge to extensive knowledge of analog audio and video, migration preparation, workflows and AV related IT.

Accommodation, food and conveyance will be provided by Employer.

The project is managed by Media Guru/Memnon Archiving Services, a joint venture of India-based Medi Guru and Belgian company Memnon Archiving Services.
