Looks to me like a synchronous gearhead motor like would drive an orbiter
but I don't see how that would work unless it actually moved the lens.
Imagine trying to keep your shot framed with a motor constantly moving the
image somewhere else! I once saw a TK-11 with two motors like that
attached to centering pots in the camera head. We forget how far we've
come!
