Hi Chris....   Also appears to be a "shield" over the transport controls. 
Looks like it would prevent accidental hitting of the buttons since you'd 
have to put your finger down in the holes to activate them. It's easiest to 
see in the VR-2000 pic, especially if you enlarge the image.

Interesting pictures and if you look at the VR-1200 and the VR-2000 you see 
special modifications.  The 2000 has a chassis showing behind the left fold 
down door.  The 1200 on the left has a special button lit up below the 
scope.
