Good discussion for Archives. The Problem with second Generation playback is 
that once encoded the Color (3.58) has no error but the Luminance does have 
Velocity & TB Error. The TB Error of Luminance & Color (3.58) are not  in 
phase. If you feed the signal through a TBC measuring Horizontal pulses, the 
luminance is corrected but that error is now induced into the Color.



The solution has been to decode the signal before TBC  correction and then 
Re-encode locking the 3.58 to the decoded horizontal error. The result is 
in-phase error

that can be corrected by high-end velocity & color correctors
