Ball Bearing heads were used for years on the early machines. I had no problem with them on the TRT-1 that I had. It can have more error then an air bearing. There is a sensor on the deck of the 1200 and other machines that will tell the machine that it has ball bearing head installed. It would be interesting to see how bad the AMTEC error would be in this case. Has anyone ever used a ball bearing head on the later machines?

Be aware that this is a BALL Bearing head, NOT AN AIR BEARING. It is 10 mil according to the part number.
I see that the link to the specs goes to a page on my website, but I do not know the seller or anything else about this head.

There is a second Ampex Mark Ten head on e-bay. Item number 400088699558, presumably 10 mil, since it does not have a "5 mil" sticker on it.
