Yes, could be that it is just missing the knob. Here's a pic of one on a MK-X head in a VR-1100. The positioners were standard on the MK-XV for the AVR-2. By the way, I understood that the 15 mil heads with the 10 mil gap area were not the greatest for interchange with standard 10 mil heads.

There were some Mark 10 heads produced with a manual guide positioning adjustment. Perhaps this one is that with the knob off the adjustment screw? Also the 15 mil heads still laid down a 10 mil track. The width of the head was made larger to hopefully give a longer life.
