Well let's see what the copyright law says about fair use.

Section 107 contains a list of the various purposes for which the reproduction of a particular work may be considered fair, such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.

I suggest that this tape was posted for teaching, scholarship and research.

	• The purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes

This is certainly nonprofit, educational use.

	• The nature of the copyrighted work

A training tape that would be provided to anyone who wanted a copy.

	• The effect of the use upon the potential market for, or value of, the copyrighted work

Since this training tape had no real commercial value, posting it would not affect any potential market.

Please see Folsom v. Marsh, 9 F.Cas. 342 (1841)

Fair use is meant to allow certain valuable social purposes. I fully respect the copyright laws and the posting is permitted under them.

If I had training tapes that I thought would be helpful to the Quad group and was concerned about the copyright laws, I would contact the copyright holder and ask for permission for distribution. I certainly wouldn't keep them hidden.

I also have copied parts of the service manual for a VR-1200B to assist individuals in repair and maintenance. The manual is copyrighted but I think this would fall under fair use. Ampex had given permission to post their old manuals. Unfortunately, only audio equipment is listed since this site is focused on audio.

I have also posted a training tape showing Intersync setup. Details to follow.
