I will "hoist" with the second group. I was a service rep for Ampex in Canada during quad days and was on the Montreal Olympic AVR-2 support team.
Yes we can train a third generation. I now train for a living teaching Broadcast Technology at SAIT in Calgary Canada. I of course do not teach about quads but I and I am sure many others can do this training.

And let's also hoist one for the second generation of Quad Engineers, which came along in the 1970's , and are still coaxing beautiful pictures (or just any picture) off of what's sometimes 50+ year old tape!
