I thought the 25 was much better than the 100. But the old RCA product manager wasn't pleased when I talked about the horrors of the threading system one night at dinner. In fact, I think he was the one paying...

> Good question though. Ampex used the same head for the AVR-1 and 25.  I believe Ampex ran 40 volts to the guide retract motor instead of the regular 24. That allowed it to be moved away faster for threading. Ampex used air and RCA used mechanical arms; but I guess you guys know this.
